Album Review
Fuel 2000's An Introduction to Willie Nelson & Roy Clark bundles together in a cardboard slipcase the label's 2002 Willie disc Absolutely the Best, Vol. 1 and its 2003 Clark compilation of the same title. Apart from that case, there is no additional packaging to the set, no additional annotation, no additional material: just two solid budget-line discs bearing the same title packaged together at a bargain point. Neither the Nelson nor the Clark showcase either musician at his best known -- the discs are culled from their early recordings for Liberty and Capitol, respectively, and while there's plenty of great music here, the selection on both discs seems a little haphazard. Nevertheless, both are easily enjoyable collections of early-'60s country, and for the fan who was considering getting both discs anyway, this is an easy way to acquire them. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
