Album Review
Boom Boom is a generic but fun and fine sounding compilation of John Lee Hooker cuts from his Detroit/Vee Jay period in the 1950s, with a few cuts from the early '60s. There is nothing to particularly distinguish this from the many other collections out there -- numerous ones with the same name -- but its flows well from beginning to end, contains the title track and "House Rent Boogie" (thank goodness; you'd be surprised at how many budget comps don't), and has some unusual tracks like "Onions," and "Send Me Your Pillow" in the mix. This is far form a worthy introduction, but those looking for the perfect greasy soundtrack to a late-night bash could do far worse than this for the price. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
