Album Review
Sony's three-disc Classic Christmas set collects 40 christmas favorites from the '50s, '60s, and '70s, including Frank Sinatra's "Let It Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!," Julie Andrews' "The Secret of Christmas," Tony Bennett's "White Christmas," Mel Tormé's "The Christmas Song," and Gene Autry's "Frosty the Snowman." Other highlights include Burl Ives' "O Little Town of Bethlehem," the Lennon Sisters' "Silent Night," Roy Orbison's "Pretty Paper," and Aretha Franklin's "Winter Wonderland." Though there isn't much rhyme or reason governing the sequencing of the collection's tracks, the mood that the artists create is consistent enough to work. Songs by Johnny Mathis, Vikki Carr, Doris Day, and Robert Goulet round out the collection, making this set a solid choice for those who want a nostalgic Christmas. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
