Nearly identical in style and savor to the original, More Music to Watch Girls By is another two-disc collection of
pop landmarks that may repeat much from the collections of veteran listeners, but could potentially fill out the stack of many beginners with some of the most popular vocal music of the era. This one swings slightly more, with a few well-chosen crossover chestnuts by the elder statesmen of an earlier generation:
Frank Sinatra ("Somethin' Stupid," a hit with daughter
Nancy),
Mel Tormé ("Comin' Home Baby," which proved
swing music's most ebullient voice lacked the groove necessary to carry a crossover), and
Doris Day (whose cover of the girl-group "Our Time Will Come" proved surprisingly successful). Along with these come a cavalcade of familiar '60s
pop hits that any fan of the era should own (and might already); "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "Wives and Lovers," "59th Street Bridge Song (Feeling Groovy)," "Windy," "Stoned Soul Picnic," "The 'In' Crowd," "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," "What a Difference a Day Makes," and on and on.
