Album Review
The best of the Searchers' five original Pye Records LPs were reissued by Castle Communications in 2001, in a 24-bit remastered edition that contained both the stereo and mono versions of the album. The 2003 Japanese mini-LP format CD utilizes similarly impressive 24-bit masters (you can even hear the action on the guitar strings on "Don't Throw Your Love Away" and "Sea Of Heartbreak"), but in lieu of the mono master, the producers have included the single "Someday We're Gonna Love Again," and its seldom heard B-side, the group original "No One Else Could Love You," the German-language version of "Needles And Pins" ("Tausend Nadelstiche"), the French version of "Don't Throw Your Love Away," a pair of outtakes, of which the second, "Shame, Sham, Shame," is a superbly lean rock 'n' roll song that slots in perfectly with what follows: the nine songs from the Searchers' second Swedish radio show appearance, from 1965. The latter tracks feature such highlights as a high energy, high speed rendition of "Red Sails In The Sunset" and "Memphis Tennessee," with some highly animated lead guitar embellishment. The result is a slightly harder-edged listening experience that captures the live side of the group at the top of its form. ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
