Album Review

It is not proper to give a new release a five-star rating, so Robert Carty and Brannan Lane will have to settle for an four-and-a-half-star rating. This CD, Climatic Infusion, is Carty's best and Lane's best. It is also the recommended starting point for listeners to begin a collection for either artist. At first glance, there appears to be something amiss. "Climatic" looks like a misspelled "climactic," but it is not. These amazing sound designers have created dense organic atmospheres that evoke several levels of responses -- including physical -- to seasonal imagery. Deep listeners will shiver and sweat as Carty and Lane take them through different regions and their respective climates. The music is perfect. There is not a weak moment on this disc. The organic atmospheres compliment the nature samples and the experimental effects and textures. Both of these musicians are extremely prolific, so this collaboration is a natural. CDs of this magnitude generally have few peers. This disc compares favorably to the best efforts of Steve Roach, Robert Rich, David Parsons, and Constance Demby. ~ Jim Brenholts, All Music Guide
