Album Review
The Hi-Lo's' first album was a solid showcase for the group's complex four-part harmonies, singing mainstream pop material set to jazzy, at times mildly swinging instrumental arrangements. "Whatever Lola Wants" (from the musical Damn Yankees), "Fools Rush In," and "She's Funny That Way" are among the more familiar songs on Listen to the Hi-Lo's, though all of them are more or less in line with the kind of material penned for mid-20th century romantic musicals and stage productions. None of these 11 songs appear on the Nice Work if You Can Get It...The Best of the Hi-Lo's compilation of their mid-'50s work for the Starlite label, so it's recommended for enthusiastic fans of the vocal quartet. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide
