Album Review

Day out of Time is an excellent introduction and starting point for new fans of Steve Roach. The soundtrack to Time of the Earth, "an audiovisual odyssey" of the Southwest, this disc has 11 chapters from previously released CDs. Some are from Roach's solo discography and others are from various-artist compilations. There are now six discs of Roach's material that allow listeners to hear cross sections or progressions of his music. He has two discs of "lost pieces," a double-disc retrospective of his Fortuna releases, and a collection of pieces from the first seven TimeRoom Editions CDs. This disc cuts across labels with a different perspective. Roach uses electro-tribal, sombient, minimalist, and pure space music pieces to convey the emotions of the landscapes. Even for e-music aficionados and established Steve Roach fans, this is an essential listening experience. ~ Jim Brenholts, All Music Guide
