Album Review
A two-disc set of hits likely to get the denizens of your local pub dancing in the middle of their snooker match, Virgin's The Best Pub Jukebox in the World...Ever! comes quite close to accomplishing the mission in the title. On tap are over 40 anthems (all of them classic), weighted most heavily toward '70s hard rock but also including a few gems from later eras like punk, heavy metal, and Brit-pop. The compilers do a proper job of sequencing too, just in case any buyers happen to run through the discs in order instead of choosing highlights; a mere sampling yields "The Boys Are Back in Town" into "Sweet Child o' Mine" into "Should I Stay or Should I Go" into "Born to Be Wild" into "Paranoid," or later on "Song 2" into "Teenage Kicks" into "Going Underground" into "Peaches" into "Love Is the Drug." Overall it's a collection with few surprises but plenty of gotta-have-it inclusions. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
