Album Review
Tammy Wynette's induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1998 was always a done deal for the singer who pretty much functioned as the First Lady of Country Music in the 1970s, and her marriage to country singer George Jones, although it only lasted around five years, seemed to play out in real life the fractured emotional themes of both of the singer's songs. This brief ten-song set hardly begins to capture any of that, although it does contain two duets with Jones, "Golden Ring" and "A Pair of Old Sneakers," and a third song, the classic "D-I-V-O-R-C-E," which pretty much sums up their stormy relationship. Missing is Wynette's greatest song, the immortal "Stand by Your Man," which underscores why this collection is only adequate at best. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
