Album Review
Park South's compilation of Waylon Jennings' early work is a nice budget collection for those who wish to get a taste of what Jennings was all about before he embodied the outlaw country persona in the '70s that propelled him to legendary status. Burning Memories covers the period from the late '50s to early '60s when Jennings was rarely performing his own material; instead he covered some nice versions of his former employer Buddy Holly's songs ("It's So Easy" is represented here), the Roy Orbison classic "Crying," and others. This set misleads the consumer a bit with the photo of Jennings during his later outlaw years and states nowhere on the packaging the time period represented on the set, but it's still a pleasant listen. ~ Gregory McIntosh, All Music Guide
