The 14-song 1995 Japanese release Purple Chronicle: The Best Selection collects 13 classics like "Highway Star," "Child in Time," "Space Truckin'," "Woman From Tokyo," "Hush," "Burn," and "Smoke on the Water," as well as a superb B-side rarity, "When a Blind Man Cries." This restrained, blues-based original is a marked departure from most of Deep Purple's work. Despite the stellar material on Purple Chronicle: The Best Selection, which is related to an earlier Japanese box set, its expensive import cost and fuzzy sound render it desirable for Deep Purple collectors only, who will also enjoy the liner notes and lyrics in both Japanese and English.
