Album Review

This 2001 Collectables two-fer pairs 1959's Chris in Person with 1964's Chris Connor Sings George Gershwin. The former, a live set recorded at the Village Vanguard and featuring Kenny Burrell on guitar, is one of Connor's best LPs, a bright and dynamic collection of her better-known standards. The latter is a ten-song LP released by Atlantic subsidiary Clarion seven years after the fact; though it's not the best place to look for her Gershwin songbook (check the compilation Sings the George Gershwin Almanac of Song), it's a nice summation of the session. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
