Album Review

Athfest '98 features 19 Athens, GA, bands performing as part of the city's annual music and arts festival. But while every town can boast a few local rock heroes, Athens has always been one of those places where great music seems to flow freely from the alleys and drift offhandedly out of open apartment complex doors. Notable participants here include Jack Logan (the ragged rock of "Thorns and the Nails"), intergalactic surf residents Man or Astro-man?, Vic Chesnutt (covering Phil Ochs' "Scorpion Departs But Never Returns"), and the monstrous pile of amplifiers that is Jucifer. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide
