Album Review

Jo Stafford on Capitol is essentially a companion volume to her Capitol Collectors Series CD since no tracks overlap. The 24 recordings span her solo period with Capitol and include some of the many hits that were missed by Capitol's own expanded anthology. Rather than simply collecting neglected hits, though, Jo Stafford on Capitol adds a number of rarities, some of which have been unavailable since their initial release. A couple of Stafford's humorous faux-hillbilly novelties are included ("Suspicion" and "I'm My Own Grandmaw"), but most of the songs are standards and show tunes, rendered flawlessly by one of the great vocalists of the era. ~ Greg Adams, All Music Guide
