Album Review
A slightly shorter but not noticeably different version of the Paul Oakenfold mix of "Close to Me" from Mixed Up leads off this particular Cure EP. The hard-hitting, clattering, funk-shuffle of the album version remains intact, making for an imaginative reworking for the Head on the Door classic. Two further remixes not available on Mixed Up appear here, both extremely striking. "Just Like Heaven" has the same pace as the original, but a noticeably different rhythm with slower drums, and what almost sound like low bells. Mixed with the familiar guitar and synth lines of the original, Smith's vocals are now brought out a little more to the front. It's a lovely new version. "Primary," meanwhile, gets a radical revamp courtesy of Tackhead drumming legend Keith LeBlanc. The quick, dour rush of the Faith track is turned into an industrial/ dance stomp, mixed with just enough unexpected light touches to really connect well. ~ Ned Raggett, All Music Guide
