Album Review
Jett Brando makes their mark with dreamy pop that has as much to do with The Velvet Underground as it does with laid-back, introspective singer/songwriter efforts. Featuring members of the beloved My Bloody Valentine-esque All Natural Lemon and Lime Flavors, the group gets their point across in a fairly subtle whisper with an occasional foray into spacey, upbeat pop. Tracks like "More Than Becoming" and "In the Dead Hot Sun" feature the chiming guitars and peppy lyrics that made '60s rock so accessible, and the more melancholy odes are still effective in their inherent moodiness. At times The Movement Toward You can become quite a downer, but it is still a beautiful record, especially on the subtle acoustic closing of "Who Is to Decide," where the group creates a spacious and peaceful web of sound that carries the extremely melodic vocals of guitarist Brando. There aren't that many variances in style, but the band does what they do with incredibly charming and expansive results. Much like All Natural Lemon and Lime Flavors were able to make a world of otherworldly hard-rocking sounds, Jett Brando constructs a universe of tiny noises and beautiful sounds that evoke dark settings and intense feelings. It may not be the best work from the musicians involved, but it is a fitting new direction, and with slightly more evocative songs, the band's instrumental prowess will really be able to shine. ~ Peter J. D'Angelo, All Music Guide
