Album Review
The final single from Open All Night, "My Love" appears here in a fun remix courtesy of Almond's longtime friend and Soft Cell collaborator Dave Ball. The pace is sped up slightly and the overall atmosphere of the song is a touch brighter from the album version, so while it's not a revelation to hear what Ball has done, it's still a pleasant effort with a great vamp from Almond toward the slowing-down end. Another cut from Open All Night, "Threat of Love," appears here unchanged, though it's a treat to hear Almond's collaboration with the Creatures, aka Siouxsie Sioux and Budgie, one more time. Based on the end results of Almond's and Sioux's vocals together, they should consider a full album. A wholly new track closes out the release -- "One Big Soul," which sounds a bit like a descendant of "The Idol," with a sharp, stiff beat, brass (and brassy backing vocals), and more to recommend it behind Almond's smooth, sly vocal. ~ Ned Raggett, All Music Guide
