Album Review
Klaus Schulze is one of the most prolific e-music composers and performers of all time. He has released well over 50 albums in a little over 30 years in the e-music community. He has also remastered and reissued many of them in pairs as two-fers. Irrlicht/Dune couples his solo debut from 1972 with his 25th album from 1979. Irrlicht is a milestone in e-music recording. Schulze used no synths, and his style bears strong similarities to Terry Riley, Pauline Oliveros, early Pink Floyd, and early Tangerine Dream. (He was a member of Tangerine Dream for their first album.) His organ is looped and processed with feedback, reverb, and echo. Dune is one of Schulze's most important albums, featuring two long-form compositions. The second track features Arthur Brown on vocals and Wolfgang Tupold on cello. The cello provides a drone. Brown "reads" a poem by Schulze. This is a remarkable package from an e-music giant. ~ Jim Brenholts, All Music Guide
