This British compilation contains within its 20 tracks all of
the Searchers' U.K. and U.S. Top 40 hits -- "Sweets for My Sweet," "Sugar and Spice," "Needles and Pins," "Don't Throw Your Love Away," "Someday We're Gonna Love Again," "When You Walk in the Room," "Love Potion Number Nine," "What Have They Done to the Rain," "Goodbye My Love," "Bumble Bee," "He's Got No Love," "When I Get Home," "Take Me for What I'm Worth," and "Take It or Leave It" -- all released between 1963 and 1966. Actually,
the Searchers' peak period of popularity lasted less than two years, from the summer of 1963 to the spring of 1965, corresponding to and complementing the era of Beatlemania. Also hailing from Liverpool, they pursued a similar Merseybeat sound to
the Beatles', complete with sweet harmonies and chiming guitars. Bedeviled by personnel changes and unable to develop the capacity for hit songwriting, they fell by the wayside after the first wave of the British Invasion, but their singles remain charming artifacts of the time. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
