Covering a greater amount of Leonard Cohen's catalog than his 1975 Best Of, the Italian Il Rock compilation of his work draws its 11 selections from his Songs of Leonard Cohen (1967), Songs from a Room (1969), Live Songs (1973), New Skin for the Old Ceremony (1974), Death of a Ladies' Man (1977), and Various Positions (1984) albums. But the selection is not as impressive as that on the earlier compilation. Though obvious choices such as "Suzanne" and "Bird on a Wire" are included, other favorites are missing, making this on the whole a less satisfying best-of than Best Of. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
