Album Review

Klaus Schulze has licensed many of his older albums to be reissued in sets. For bargain hunters looking for an introduction to Schulze's music, this is very cool. Most of the packages offer two discs for the price of one and a half. It also extends the availability of some of his classics. Miditerranean Pads/Moondawn is such a package. Moondawn is an all-time classic. For many serious listeners, this was the first and/or most important electronic music purchase. There is good reason for such sentiment -- this is a great album. It is definitely hardcore Berlin school electronica and much more. Like his contemporaries, Schulze added some extra flair to his style. This album has loads of ambient atmospheres accompanying the deep sequences. While the original album is an analog creation, it still holds its own with new-millennium digitalia and is uniquely old school. Miditerranean Pads, while neither as popular nor as good as Moondawn, is no slouch. It has Schulze performing neo-classical ambience and symphonic synth e-music; sequenced rhythms balance the gentle atmospheres. This package, like all Schulze sets, will appeal to fans of Paul Haslinger, Edgar Froese, and Johannes Schmoelling. ~ Jim Brenholts, All Music Guide
