Album Review
Neither a career retrospective nor a rarities collection, Time Pieces, Vol. 2: Live in the '70s is an odd record. Featuring a selection of material recorded in concert at various points in the '70s, the album never gives an accurate impression of Clapton's progression as a guitarist -- it's sequenced haphazardly, with tracks falling outside of strict chronological order. Nevertheless, there are a number of fine performances here, especially on album tracks like "Tulsa Time" and "If I Don't Be There by Morning," as well as the extended solos of "Rambling on My Mind." Casual listeners may find that Time Pieces, Vol. 2 doesn't fulfill their needs the way its predecessor did, but die-hard fans will find certain tracks to be of interest. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
