Album Review

Caedmon's Call's 1999 effort, 40 Acres, doesn't disappoint. It shows off the group's broadening concerns, with songs like "Table for Two," which wistfully expresses coming to terms with being single. It also shows off their expanding musical interests, with songs like the rollicking, piano-based "Daring Daylight Escape." This album carries on their trademark honesty through songs like "Petrified Heart" and "Shifting Sand," and encourages with songs like "Climb On (A Back That's Strong)" and "Faith My Eyes." Although by the end the songs start to sound a little bland, 40 Acres is a fruitful, worthwhile listen. It doesn't have the strength of their previous albums, but it does move Caedmon's Call, and their fans, in some new directions while being faithful to their purpose. ~ Melinda Hill, All Music Guide

This is one of my absolute favorite CD's. I love the music, the lyrics, and the band. I highly recommend this CD.

Confident after four No. 1 singles and a 1998 Dove Award for Modern/Alternative Album of the Year, Caedmon's Call are back with more coffeehouse rock and brilliant songwriting on 40 Acres. This seven-piece ensemble has made a name for itself, not only with chart success, but with its hook-laden acoustic pop and extensive college-circuit touring. The tightness shows with their smooth rhythms, layered guitars, and evocative vocals. The first single, "There You Go," is pleasant enough, but dig deeper with such thoughtful gems as "Faith My Eyes," "Somewhere North," and the moving "Table for Two." "Daring Daylight Escape" kicks up a country-rock storm from the Pure Prairie League/Poco vein. Songwriters Aaron Tate and Derek Webb are two of the brightest hopes in contemporary Christian music's future.

Another great cd by the best Christian band ever. If you don't already own every cd by Caedmon's Call you simply must swap for them. You will be so glad you did. I can't bare to part with mine. If that is the wrong spelling for "bare" I apologize. Caedmon's is the best. If you like Jars of Clay's Much Afraid cd you will LOVE Caedmon's Call.

Thought-provoking Christian folk-pop.
