Album Review

Originally a double album, this 18-song CD is a good selection of the better songs recorded by the group from What We Did on Our Holidays thru Babbacombe Lee, including "Sailor's Life," "Who Knows Where the Time Goes," "Meet On the Ledge," "Si Tu Dois Partir," "Matty Groves," "Sloth," and "Angel Delight." It's no substitute for any of the albums up to and including Full House, but it's adequate for someone on a limited budget. As with most Fairport albums, the notes are virtually nonexistent, but in place of a historical essay, the CD reproduces the original album's group family tree by Pete Frame, covering the seven lineups of the group (and the prior and subsequent activities of all members) as of the fall of 1972 -- it was already pretty complex at that point, though someday that account has to be extended to the end of the century.
