Album Review

The title track of this single, "Underground," taken from their self-titled LP, was the first to gain Ben Folds Five worldwide recognition and is found here in a slightly edited version that removes the conversational introduction. Considered by fans to be the 1990s equivalent to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," the song parodies the alternative lifestyle with great harmonies and witty lyrics. The two live tracks were recorded at a club called Ziggy's in 1995. "Satan Is My Master" is a short, comical commentary on the influence music has on its listeners. The last track, "Video," is also a cut from the self-titled LP but seems to have more energy in this live performance. "Video" is a slow, depressing ballad about the passing of time, and is performed well. Each live track really shows off how tight the band's music and vocal harmonies are. ~ Joe Schanderson, All Music Guide
