Album Review

The 1987 Polydor UK compilation The Cream of Eric Clapton (a title that gets a lot of play over the years) runs 17 tracks and offers a nice cross section of hits from Clapton's '60s, '70s and '80s recordings, including singles from Cream and Derek & The Dominoes. In fact, those two bands take care of the first seven songs here, then thre rest emphasize Clapton's softer, poppier hits, like "Lay Down Sally," "Wonderful Tonight," "Let It Grow" and "Promises." In other words, this plays to the crossover hits that everybody knows and for listeners looking for a smaple of that, this is a good, entertaining compilation. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
