Album Review
Although the subject of many detractors, Eddy Arnold always possessed a beautiful voice, albeit one that was often swamped with syrupy string arrangements. Standards is certainly over-produced, but there's much to admire in Arnold's interpretations of some of the finest songs from the American Songbook. "Scarlet Ribbons" is a strong opener, and Arnold's velvet delivery is ideally suited to "Georgia on My Mind," which is arguably the highlight of the disc. As a whole, the string arrangements do get a little much, and Arnold is undoubtedly playing it safe here, but Standards is a fine record from a fine country singer. ~ Thomas Ward, All Music Guide
