Produced and arranged by Gene Barge, the Soul Stirrers' Sing is an excellent welcomed addition to the venerable group's catalog. The mellow "Keep Love Alive" has a message of unity that no one can argue with. Sam Cooke's "Jesus Be a Fence," one of the group's perennial favorites, is covered with rousing fervor. Martin Jacox's raspy vocals on "Calling On the Lord" and "Poor Man's Struggle elicit the earth-shaking intensity of a Spirit-filled tent revival. Two Stevie Wonder songs, "Have aA Talk With God" and "Love's in Need of Love Today," with a smooth lead vocal by Willie Rogers, are given appropriate covers that imbue the lyrics with a new depth. Other standouts are "You Better Sing" and a fresh arrangement of the standard "Last Mile of the Way," with the Gatling Staff Choir. With such classic singers as R.H.
