To anyone who has, with difficulty, followed
Marty Balin's erratic solo career, it can come as no surprise that this -- only his fourth solo album in 16 years -- is another pleasant but weightless collection of pop-rock songs (almost all of them written by someone else). The someone else in this case is Rich Landers, who also produced the album, and who trots out familiar-sounding ballads and midtempo rockers, their familiar lyric sentiments suggested by titles like "Beautiful Girl," "My Heart Picked You" and "Sexy Eyes."
Balin renders these words effectively, and he is in typically good voice, but he never really soars or treats the songs personally. His one contribution, "Goddess," isn't much better than the rest. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
