Album Review
Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline had much in common. They were both titans in country music, they were both produced by Owen Bradley, and they both were the preeminent female country vocalists of their time. However, they did not tour together in their prime, no matter what the title of MCA Special Products' Loretta Lynn & Patsy Cline On Tour #2 may indicate. The "On Tour" section of the title should only be seen as an indication that the enclosed recordings were cut in concert, not the studio. That said, the compilation is actually fairly entertaining, as it alternates between classics from Loretta ("Coal Miner's Daughter," "What Kind of Girl (Do You Think I Am?)," "Heart Don't Do This To Me," "Here I Am Again," "You Ain't Woman Enough (To Take My Man)") and Patsy ("Strange," "Crazy," "Back in Baby's Arms," "You Belong to Me," "Your Cheatin' Heart"). These aren't necessarily the best versions either artist recorded, but the end result is considerably more enjoyable than the average budget-line disc. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
