Album Review

This two-CD set captures Teddy Wilson and a local rhythm section performing a live engagement at E.J.'s, a long-defunct Atlanta nightclub. Although it's unlikely that Wilson knew he was being recorded -- his remarks to the audience aren't very audible, and the noise level is just a bit too high for a professional recording -- he's in good form throughout the evening. He sticks to familiar material, though there are a few surprises in store, including a number of medleys, which don't vary significantly from his earlier recordings. Bassist Laymon Jackson and drummer Billy Daniels provide strong support and get a number of solos. A release definitely worth picking up if you're a fan of Teddy Wilson. ~ Ken Dryden, All Music Guide
