Album Review

Not all of the music on Mortal Kombat [Original Soundtrack] was used in the film. Instead, it contains a fair selection of songs that fit the atmosphere of the movie, as well as the tastes of the adolescent fans of the ultra-violent street-fighting arcade game. Mortal Kombat captures its essence, featuring a side of hardcore techno and a side of heavy metal. Although they may appear to be polar opposites, techno and metal aren't that dissimilar, propelled by aggression and relentless riffs. Musically, the record blends together well, but the album doesn't have consistently impressive performances. Nevertheless, the tracks from Orbital, KMFDM, Type O Negative, Traci Lords, Napalm Death, and the Utah Saints make the Mortal Kombat album worthwhile for fans of the movie and the game. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
