Jo Carol Pierce - Bad Girls Upset by the Truth

Pierce's debut, while for all practical purposes a country record, is virtually unprecedented stuff: based on the singer's autobiographical absurdist satire of the same name, Bad Girls Upset by the Truth is essentially a performance piece, grounded more in theater than in music. A comic tale masking bitter themes including mental illness and victimization, the narrative kicks off with the central character's (also named Jo Carol) suicide and culminates with the birth of the baby girl Jesus inside a supermarket.
