Album Review
Lena Horne appeared in many MGM musicals during the 1940s but almost always in cameos, singing one or two songs and then disappearing. This Rhino CD collects together 23 songs (six of which were actually outtakes) from Horne's films. Although generally not jazz, these swinging middle of the road pop performances are quite enjoyable and give one a well-rounded musical portrait of Lena Horne. Highlights include "Honeysuckle Rose," "Somebody Loves Me," a medley from Showboat, and "The Lady Is a Tramp. " ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
