Album Review
Pianist Laszlo Gardony lives up to the title of his CD, performing a variety of standards (including such classics as "Body and Soul," "Take the 'A' Train," "Naima," "Caravan," "Doxy," and two Thelonious Monk tunes) but he reinvents them, altering the harmonies and chord structures, inserting large doses of passion, and putting the emphasis on his own spontaneity. These performances are full of surprises and unusual interpretations. One should expect the unexpected while listening to this stimulating and consistently inventive session. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
