Album Review
Jo Stafford was never a jazz singer but, because she had a very appealing voice and always sang perfectly in tune with a gentle swing, she was widely admired by jazz musicians in addition to her large middle-of-the-road pop audience. On her Corinthian CD Stafford is heard during the 1960-70 era singing standards while backed by big bands arranged by Paul Weston, Billy May and Benny Carter. Unfortunately neither recording dates nor personnel listings are given but the singer is in consistently fine form, enhancing such veteran songs as "Takin' a Chance on Love," "Early Autumn," "Anyplace I Hang My Hat Is Home" and "The Night We Called It a Day." This is one of Jo Stafford's finer releases. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
