Album Review

While the Side Show album was released in the U.K. and elsewhere as a two-disc set, in the U.S. it only appeared as an edited one-disc affair. The Stateside fans weren't totally ignored, though -- Side Show collects the remaining tracks from the album as a separate EP. "Just Like Heaven" reappears from the album proper, with the other four tracks making up the balance of the entire set from Side Show (though as a side note, the encore tracks from the film itself were never separately released in any form). Without question the most interesting, gripping track is "Tape," a haunting, passionate instrumental used by the band as its intro music for the tour. Mixing voiceless wails from Smith and a dark, growing surge in the music as the guitar and drumming get more intense, it's a winner through and through. The versions of "Fascination Street," "The Walk" and "Let's Go to Bed" are fine enough performances, easily comparable to other live versions in circulation, if not totally stunning outside of "Fascination Street" itself. ~ Ned Raggett, All Music Guide
