Review

In 2002, Castle records released a compilation containing 35 mainstream jazz renderings recorded on October 18, 1970, November 8, 1971, and during March 1973, by jazz violin virtuoso Stéphane Grappelli in collaboration with two different English rhythm sections: pianists Alan Clare and Marc Hemmeler, bassists Lennie Bush and Kenny Napper, and drummers Tony Crombie and Terry Jenkins. What you have here are essentially the complete Pye recordings of Grappelli as originally issued on three different LPs, including concert footage taped "Live at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London." Note that the track called "Emotion" is a piano solo by Grappelli. This friendly, accessible instrumental jazz is ideally suited for smoking, drinking, dining, lounging and walking around at night. ~ arwulf arwulf, All Music Guide
