Review
The second of two CD volumes continues the documentation of a Dixieland session featuring trumpeter Buck Clayton (who was normally a swing player), either Benny Morton or Cutty Cutshall on trombones, clarinetist Peanuts Hucko, pianist Dave McKenna, bassist Bob Haggart and drummer Buzzy Drootin. The repertorie (other than a ballad medley) is a bit stale (including "The Saints," "Ballin' the Jack," "Indiana" and "Bye Bye Blackbird") but the music has plenty of spirit and drive. Clayton generally comes up with something fresh to say in his solos and the ensembles have fire. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
