Album Review
With Johnny Cash you pretty much get Johnny Cash, so this set doesn't disappoint in that sense, but these aren't the original versions of these classic songs but are instead re-recordings that Cash did in the 1980s for Mercury Records. Again, it's Johnny Cash, but these versions don't have the offhand, casual edginess of the originals, although they're professionally done. There's just something missing, and that something missing is what made Cash, at his best, much more than a facsimile of himself. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
