Cholera was formed on May 14th 1995 in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada by singer/songwriter, Tom Ryerson and guitarist Doug Hainer as an outlet for their more experimental music. Hainer later opted out and into produtcion, so Ryerson then recruited two fellow film arts college-mates, Joe Maagdenberg and Craig Moorhouse into the project. Both had been in traditional bands before and were excited to do something different. ‘Sky Skraping’ was recorded in one eight hour session, and is a fine example of what happens when you put three art students in a room full of recording equipment. Here you'll find lots of feedback, tape loops, and tons of distortion, along with a very disturbing nightmare and a bad, heavy drug trip. They refer to their recording as an experimental journey into the subconscioussness of modern man, and without drums, guitars, or samplers, they do a fine job. Great for overnight radio or when your life just falls apart. An excellent example of Canadian sound experimentation. Musical influences and similar artists include Cabaret Voltaire, Clock DVA, Laibach, Foetus, Coil, Psychic TV, and of course, Throbbing Gristle. College radio has picked up on the track “Hush, you’re beautiful,” playing it various electronic late night programs.
