Album Review
The Dukes of Dixieland smoothly breeze through 12 New Orleans classics on Digital Dixieland, playing with steady professionalism and occasionally even some moments of inspiration. This disc purportedly made history when it was cut in 1985, as it was reportedly the first jazz session ever done specifically for compact disc. Since The Dukes were the first jazz group to cut a stereo album in 1957, and the first to record direct-to-digital in 1975, it follows that they would be among the earliest to embrace the CD. The set has subsequently been polished a bit, and this version sounds less brittle and treble-dominated than many of the early CD's. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
