Album Review

This two-disc U.K. collection features 34 classic tracks culled from material recorded between the british folk-rock legend's 1968 eponymous debut and 1975's Rising for the Moon. Listeners looking for a solid entry point into the world of Fairport Convention will find that Gold more than suffices, as it relies a great deal on the group's most beloved lineup featuring Richard Thompson and Sandy Denny. However, 1999's Meet on the Ledge: The Classic Years (1967-1975) is as good if not better than Gold, and is far easier to locate. ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide
