Album Review
The title of Bill Monroe At His Best is a bit of a misnomer. Although this is fine Monroe -- and he never was particularly bad -- it isn't the best way to hear him, since the audio quality is terrible and none of these performances are among his best-known. Still, Monroe was never particularly bad, and the music itself on the collection is entertaining, thanks to the presence of such songs as "Muleskinner Blues," "Blue Moon of Kentucky," "Uncle Pen," "I Saw the Light" and "Bluegrass Breakdown." ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
