Album Review
The reason The Magazine was such a disappointment was that Rickie Lee Jones had proven herself a major artist with her first two albums and turned into a self-conscious, pretentious, minor one on this, her third. Once, she made art by observing street people and describing them carefully; now she tried to make "Art" by navel-gazing. What a letdown. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
