Review
This brief set collects a handful of classic cuts (including the title track, "Groovin' High") that Dizzy Gillespie recorded with alto saxophonist Charlie Parker in 1945 along with sides recorded in 1952 in Paris with Don Byas on tenor sax and Arnold Ross on piano, and a handful of tracks with Gillespie blowing trumpet against (as opposed to with) a string orchestra from 1953. It all makes for a rather mixed bag and doesn't make a particularly good introduction to Gillespie, although it does jarringly show some of the extremes in the Diz legacy. This exact sequence was released on CD under the same title in 1994 by Drive Archive. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
