Now here is a double disc that celebrates '80s
hair metal in a way that few have. On disc one, you get the power and the glory by everyone from
Cinderella,
Winger,
the Bulletboys,
Joe Lynn Turner,
Lita Ford,
Great White,
Warrant,
Dio (a live "Holy Diver" no less!),
White Lion,
L.A. Guns, and
Bang Tango, just to name a few. It's all hedonistic party hair rock for the hearty with 18 track worth no less. On disc two, the listener gets the cream of the crop of power ballads minus two (nothing from
Poison, who did a number of power ballads, though
Bret Michaels does do an acoustic "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" and "Sweet Child O' Mine," from
G N' R; that one is covered by
Love/Hate) but there's plenty anyway, from
Kip Winger's "Madalaine,"
Night Ranger's "Sister Christian" (live),
Starship's "Sara,"
Great White's "Rock Me,"
Warrant's "Heaven,"
L.A. Guns covering
Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive,"
Cinderella's "Don't Know What You Got (Til It's Gone)," and more. There are 34 cuts in all on two discs. This may not be every metal collector's dream, but it could be if you are looking for alternative versions, as a number of cuts are live or radio sessions. This is a righteous document of just how excessive and decadent it all was. (You know, back when
rock & roll was still fun.) ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
