Jones and Kuti have really pulled together a good combination of funk and soul. Clearly you can see the neo-soul influence of D'Angelo, Musiq, India.Arie, and Jill Scott. I can honestly say this, I have played this cd many many times. I learned of Zwei while they were performing outside a record store in the Washington, DC area. After listening to them perform 2 tracks, I went in and purchased the cd. From the opening track, "Won't Play Your Game", you knew you were in for a treat. There is a mix of everything on their debut cd, funky tracks, smooth r&b, and some wonderful ballads. All these songs come together in one solid debut cd. Released on an independent level, this cd gives the group the freedom to experiment with new sounds without having "big brother", a major record label, looking over their shoulders. Stand out tracks on this cd are the mid tempo gem "On the 2", the heartfelt ballad "2:22", and the catchy "2 Times" Zwei has laid the foundation for what can be an original and exciting musical career. Zwei- The 2 leaves the listener feeling that even though much of today's "popular" music seems factory made, there is still hope for people who truly enjoy original and inspired music."
