Synopsis

Product Description
Zomes is the work of Asa Osborne (Lungfish, The Pupils). Time Was follows his album Earth Grid (April 2011) and his sold out LP-only release Improvisations (Jan 2012)

Time Was marks a new stage in the evolution of Zomes. The album marks the first recordings of Zomes as a duo and the first time an album was recorded in a studio and not on a cassette deck.

Asa is now joined by Swedish vocalist Hanna. The strength of the collaboration is instantly apparent from the opening notes of the album.
Hanna s voice floats freely above Asa s signature organ repetitions. While previous Zomes releases have stuck closely to either long-form improvisations or deep explorations of melody and eternal repetition, Time Was unifies these approaches. The meditative Equinox builds up from a deep organ drone, soft piano and plaintive vocals adding texture and melody, while the title track is as close to a pop song as Zomes has ever come. Time Was is the most hi-fi Zomes has ever sounded, adding lush multi-tracked vocals and grand piano to some of Osbornes tried-and-true distorted organ tones.
